Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays 2005

Merry Christmas, Happy Hollidays 2005
All of us on Perkins Mountain (elev. 1,089 ft; ok, Hill) wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holydays.
Much has been said (and screamed) over the past few weeks about the threatened loss of the "reason for the season". Bill O'Reilly and others have managed to bring much attention to this dilemma, but I have noticed a mean spirit to some of this dialog.
Our position: We are less concerned about what Target and Lowes choose to call the season, than what Christians choose to be in the world. I am not so sure that Jesus is really so interested in having his name and title at the center of the commercialization and secular revelry. The blessing in our country and most others is that we are still able to BE Christian, "Christ-like", without persecution. So we need to seek to be like Him, which we are when we serve others and manifest the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galations 5:22). Fortunately, as Paul writes in the very next verse: "against such things there is no law". When we are prevented from BEING the church, we have reason for great concern, but actually, that cannot happen.
